Taiwan

2012

Taiwan was the first country I traveled to outside of the United States. It was the first place my now husband took me. I remember feeling intimidated, excited, and adventurous all at the same time. The moment I stepped out of the airplane into the humid jet bridge I knew my life was never going to be the same, in the best way possible. That trip changed my whole outlook on the world, on people, and on traveling. The night markets in Taipei exposed me to food I never thought I would try, let alone grow to love. The temples in Tainan gave me a new perspective on history and culture. There is also nothing more humbling than being somewhere you have never been and not being able to speak the language. It felt as though I was learning something I had always known in a completely different way. There is a difference between looking at how beautiful the world is through a photo and experiencing it in person. My deep love for kindness, for culture, for exploration, and for adventure were born in Taiwan.
